Our goal is to enter into partnerships with families currently living in inadequate housing, who wish to own a home of their own. The Habitat family purchase their homes at cost directly from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Moses Lake with no profit, no interest loans. All families commit to 450 hours hours of “sweat equity.
Mission Statement
“Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need. By building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends.”
• Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit non-denominational Christian housing organization, dedicated to eliminating poverty and homelessness.
• We welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter.
• Homes are built from volunteer labor, private donations, and the hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” by each partner family. The homes are sold to the partner families at no-profit and no-interest mortgage.
• The homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving fund that is used to build more houses.
• Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate according to race, religion, or ethnic group.
• Habitat is not a giveaway program. It is a hand up not hand out. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor-sweat equity-into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.
• Habitat houses are affordable for low income families because there is no profit included in the sale price.
• Mortgage length varies from seven to thirty years
• Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller in Amercius, Georgia.
• Habitat for Humanity International, to date has completed over 200,000 homes (which houses over 1,000,000 people) worldwide.
• Habitat for Humanity of Greater Moses Lake was founded in 1997 with construction efforts beginning in 1998. As of 2008, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Moses Lake has built 9 homes.
